Did You Know? 1-8-2021

DID YOU KNOW? Owning fine art is a joy, but those placing art in their homes should consider much more than just insurance: placing art to avoid damage may be as important. Sunlight, excessive moisture or dryness, fireplaces, etc are not healthy for the preservation of art. (WSJ)

DID YOU KNOW? Before the pandemic and BREXIT, the U.K.’s Office for National Statistics had predicted that London’s population would grow by 56,000 people to 9,095,459 between 2020 and 2021. That did not happen and London like many larger cities may see a decline in population. Less congested big cities? Sounds amazing! (CNBC)

DID YOU KNOW? A new law that targets wealthy buyers of high-priced homes and commercial properties through anonymous shell companies could help stop the flow of illicit cash into real estate. But some money-laundering experts say the measure has loopholes that could be easily exploited. Under the law, the database of beneficial owners will not be made available to the public. However, experts say there are few safeguards to prevent companies from providing inaccurate information to the government.

DID YOU KNOW? Single-family landlords have reported record occupancy and fast-rising rents since the pandemic began. Individuals, family offices, pension funds, and Wall Street’s boldfaced names are shoveling billions of dollars into build-to-rent projects. More than 50,000 houses were built specifically to serve as rentals during the 12 months ended Sept. 30.....up over 60% from the prior year! (WSJ)

DID YOU KNOW? The sea at the southern end of the Flori
da Peninsula has risen a foot since the 1900s, and almost 5 inches since 1993. All coastal real estate is beginning to evaluate higher risk from rising sea levels.
